Small bathroom with a grand design

Clever ways to make your small bathroom look bigger

Have you just moved into a new home and your bathroom is on the small side? Don't worry! With a few clever touches and a sprinkle of creativity, you can transform even the tiniest space into a welcoming, practical, and stylish haven. Discover our top tips for furnishing a small bathroom.

Choose light colours and reflective surfaces

Colours have a huge impact on how we perceive space, so what colours should you consider? For the walls and tiling of your small bathroom, opt for pale hues such as white, beige, dove grey or soft pastels. If you want to amplify natural light and make the bathroom appear bigger, you can also choose glossy surfaces and reflective materials, such as ceramic tiles or large mirrors.

Pick a shower and wall-mounted sanitary ware

In a small bathroom, a shower is often more practical than a bathtub, as it allows you to gain precious centimetres. How about a walk-in shower with transparent glass walls? If you want to maximise space further, create niches in the wall to store shampoo and toiletries, avoiding unnecessary clutter.

The same principle applies to the sanitary ware: wall-mounted WC and washbasin models visually free up the floor, creating the illusion of a more spacious environment and also making cleaning easier.

Make room for the washing machine

Do you need to fit your washing machine in the bathroom? Create a practical laundry corner by building the appliance under the washbasin or, alternatively, inside a dedicated bathroom cabinet, perhaps paired with a stacked drier, to keep everything neat and tidy.

One way to take advantage of the space in a small bathroom is to look up: wall units, shelves or open-fronted elements are very useful for storing detergents, towels, beauty products, and various accessories.

Light as much as possible

Do you know what else could make your bathroom appear bigger? Strategic lighting. Install recessed spotlights to distribute light evenly and place wall lamps along the walls to illuminate specific areas, such as the make-up station. Another must-have accessory is a backlit mirror, which adds a modern touch and makes the setting even brighter.
