New Year’s decluttering

The start of a new year is the ideal moment to renew the home and get rid of the superfluous, adopting the art of decluttering. It's not just about getting rid of unnecessary items, but rather about creating a harmonious environment that makes you feel good every day. Here is a practical guide to decluttering, with a focus on reorganising the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Let's work together to keep to our New Year's resolutions and create a tidier and more peaceful home!

Decluttering the kitchen: more space and less stress

The kitchen is a hub of activity in the home, but it can easily become disorganised. Over time, we accumulate utensils, dishes, and appliances that we hardly ever use, leading to a cluttered kitchen.

So, how do you organise your kitchen? Follow these steps.

  1. Empty everything out: to start, take everything out of every cabinet, drawer, and larder. This step is essential to realise how many things you own and how much space they take up. As you empty, separate the everyday items from the forgotten ones.
  2. Check expiry dates: throw away expired food and distribute the rest in clear containers to keep the contents visible and accessible, consuming them before it's too late.
  3. Reduce duplicates: do you really need four bottle openers or ten wooden spoons? Keep only the essentials and donate the rest, recovering precious centimetres.
  4. Create functional areas: organise the space based on your day-to-day needs. For example, group the spices near the hob, place the cups next to the coffee machine, use internal partitions and wall-mounted accessories for utensils, so you can immediately find what you're looking for. Did you know that many Scavolini kitchen models offer an equipped wall panel?

Decluttering the bathroom: fewer products, more well-being

We spend a large part of our days in the bathroom: could this be why it's the room that collects the most clutter? Between empty shampoo bottles left in the shower, accumulated make-up, and expired medicines, chaos often reigns: tidying up can help you not only save time during your daily routine, but also transform the bathroom into an oasis of well-being.

  1. Eliminate old products: open drawers and check the expiry date of creams, mascara, and medicines, disposing of products that are no longer usable, as they could be harmful to the skin.
  2. Organise by category: divide the objects according to their function, such as skincare, hair, make-up, accessories, etc., using trays, baskets, or organizers to have everything at your fingertips.
  3. Optimise vertical spaces: especially if the bathroom is small, take advantage of the walls, customising them with shelves, hooks, and/or containers.
  4. Limit future purchases: have you felt the urge to buy the latest lipstick? Before buying new products, make sure you have finished the ones you already have, limiting "crazy" spending.

Decluttering the wardrobe and bedroom: the secret to a good night’s sleep

Are you used to making your bed every morning? The bedroom should be a refuge of peace and tranquillity, but often a neglected wardrobe and cluttered surfaces create the opposite effect. Decluttering this room means furnishing a space that promotes relaxation and better sleep. Where to start?

  1. The three-pile method: completely empty the wardrobe and divide the clothes into three categories: "keep", "donate" and "throw away”. If you haven't worn something in the last six months or if it doesn't make you feel comfortable, it's a clear sign that you need to get rid of it.
  2. Use organizers: organizers are your best allies for accessories, underwear, and socks. Choose transparent or modular solutions to maximise space and enhance your wardrobe: are you already familiar with the accessories of the Walk-in Fluida walk-in wardrobe?
  3. Weekly decluttering: to keep your wardrobe tidy over time, dedicate a few minutes each week to putting away clothes.
