Fixing shelves of different, and sometimes unusual, thicknesses, dimensions, shapes, colours and finishes to the bathroom wall nearly always turns out to be a really smart move!
Shelves are great surfaces, above all for those without enough storage space in their bathroom, as well as becoming interesting furnishing elements for your room. Thanks to the endless possibilities for configuration, shelves don’t require much space on the wall, as opposed to bulkier container units. You can position them over the washbasin, underneath the mirror or next to them, matching them with the colour of the bathroom or in sharp contrast with it to create a play of colour with great visual impact.
When it comes to choosing the material for the shelves, you’re spoilt for choice: glass, wood, ceramic, Plexiglas, metal, steel … The important thing is that the material is very resistant to humidity, given the setting where it will be fitted!
Essential lines, the warmth of wood, indispensable components of furnishing to create an orderly environment, functional bases for supporting container element or washbasins for bathrooms with an extremely minimalist and contemporary design: these are the main uses for shelves in the bathroom. But we also want to flag up some other uses, perhaps more unusual, for these elements: a shelf dedicated entirely to supporting the mirror (photo right), the tap sets “vanish” and are built into the shelf (photo centre) or sheet metal shelves that appear and disappear behind the Around revolving wall.
If you don’t have particular space problems in the bathroom, you can also just use shelves as matching furniture: in this case, go wild with form and colour to create movement on the wall, show off towel or perfume accessories, arranging them carefully on each, create a perfect mix of functionality and design for an orderly bathroom with a nod to aesthetics.
